Abstract:
The dynamic monitoring of beach profile is the basis for evaluating the effect of beach maintenance project. It is also the key step for the timely problem identification and proposing solutions in engineering practice. Since conventional measurement methods have some limitations, such as low efficiency, long period and difficult to cover the whole survey area, it is very important for the study applying new technology in beach profile dynamic monitoring. In this paper, we take the beach maintenance project in Tianquan Bay of Xiamen as an example, and compared the results of UAV and laser measurements with the artificial field measurement. The result shows that the plane coordinate accuracy of UAV can meet the requirements but bias the elevation accuracy. The 3D laser scanner measurement data can meet the requirement of survey accuracy in large-scale beach profile topography but it is restricted by the field angle resulting in scanning noise and blind area. The application of UAV and laser technology combining with traditional measurement method should have a good practicability in the engineering practice of wide area beach maintenance in China.
